Mr. Tan: good afternoon Ms. Principal, good afternoon Mr. Magalona, Ms. San Jose…

(shakes hands)

Julie and Elmo: good afternoon po.

napatingin nalang ako kay Julie. i don’t know why but i’m kind of getting really nervous. 

Principal: Julie, Elmo..i want you to meet Mr. Dave Tan. he is the head and the president of the University of the Philippines’ fine arts division. specifically on theater arts. and he has good news for the both of you. Mr. Tan, do the honors..

Mr. Tan: thanks..okay. Ms. Julie San Jose, Mr. Elmo Magalona. i came here to tell you something.. i just want to tell you, in behalf of the UP council, that we are offering you a scholarship at UP, Theater Arts. it’ll be a four-year scholarship. you’ll have your own place, budget. 

Elmo: but….

Mr. Tan: but what Mr. Magalona?

Elmo: no..nothing sir. thanks.

OH NO! I’M IN BIG TROUBLE! Lauren and I planned to take up a course in CSB. oh no, oh no, oh no! you’re in BIG trouble Elmo..

Julie: wo..wow. i don’t know what to say Mr. Tan. thank you soooo much! i’m excited to go to college!

Principal: i see. the future theater artists of the Philippines! …are you okay Mr. Magalona? you look so horrified. ayaw mo ba?

Elmo: (doubt face) no..no. it’s okay….i like it. thanks…

[Julie’s side] bakit ganun? ba’t parang ayaw ni elmo? baka naman ayaw niya ako maging kaklase?…kapal naman kung ganun. bahala nga siya.

(after minutes of talking about thingss…)

Mr. Tan: it was nice meeting you, Mr. Magalona, Ms. San Jose. and thanks Ms. Principal for giving me the honors to tell these two great kids the good news. thanks! i’ll see you next month! :)

Principal: we’ll see you next month! :)

Julie: thank you po talaga! see you next month! :)

..ano bang nangyayari kay Elmo? parang tulala?

Julie: (kinuhit si Elmo) wala ka bang sasabihin?

Elmo: oh..yea…thanks…Mr. Tan. see you…..next month. 

just when Mr. Tan left, the principal told us to go back to class..

Elmo and Julie: okay po Ma’am. thanks.

Sabay kaming luamabas ni Julie. The school’s admin member was waiting for us outside. May nagawa ba kaming kasalanan? Is this trouble?

Admin Member: The Principal wants to see you.

Oh no! What?…Nagkatinginan lang kami ni Julie. Wala naman kaming ginawa. That was the first time na nakatingin ako ng derecho kay Julie. She’s got nice eyes naman pala…

We rushed papuntang Principal’s office. And when we got there…

Principal: goodmorning Mr. Magalona, Ms. San Jose.

Elmo and Julie: good morning po.

Principal: pinatawag ko kayo kasi I have something very important to tell you and someone wants to meet you.

I can feel my heart beat fast. Tumayo balahibo ko dahil sa kaba…malamig rin kasi sa office. Heeeheee. But I can’t see kaba in Julie’s face. Napaka-confident niya. And I like it. 

(phone rings..)

Principal: hello? ….. okay …… yes ….

Mabuti nalang nagring yung office phone. Medyo nawalan ako ng kaba.

Elmo: Julie.

Julie: Yup?

Elmo: sorry talaga kahapon ha, di man lang ako nakapag-sorry in a formal way =)

Julie: ano ka ba, okay lang yun no! =)

Elmo: hehehe. thanks. anyway, di ka ba kinakabahan?

Julie: hindi naman. bakit rin naman ako kakabahan? hahaha. ikaw?

Elmo: oo eh. tsk. 

Julie: ano ka ba, wala yan no. nararamdaman kong di tayo papagalitan. apir?

Elmo: apir! hahaha.

That was the LONGEST conversation I had with Julie ever since I came to this world. It was short but that was the longest, I tell you. May sense rin naman pala siya kausap, akala ko kasi sobrang tahimik siya kahit maingay sa classroom. Anyway, at least nabawas-bawasan na amg pagkakailangan namin.

Principal: okay, back to business. the both of you know that when it comes to plays, kayo lang ang pambato ng school. you’ve got chemistry and such great talent. and I know that you’ve been informed by your teacher that you are doing A Walk To Remember this school year. am I right?

Elmo and Julie: yes Ma’am.

Principal: okay. so we’re clear on that. Julie, you will play as Jamie Sullivan. Elmo, you will play as Landon Carter. i strongly believe that you can give justice to their characters, that’s why we chose you. and we chose you because we will be having a highly respected visitor on the day of the play. ask me who..

Elmo and Julie: who?

Principal: the president will watch your play.

I WAS SHOCKED! THE PRESIDENT WILL WATCH OUR PLAY. ITS THE PHILIPPINE PRESIDENT, NOT A PTA PRESIDENT.

Principal: alam niyo naman na one of your schoolmates is the son of a senator. and that senator recommended us to the president. napaunlakan naman ng president. the play will be on the 27th, and that will be 3 weeks from now.

Julie: Ma’am, I think masyado pong short yung time to prepare.

Principal: i know. and that’s one of the reasons why i called the both of you. you will start practicing tomorrow. you will practice everyday, dismissal time until 6pm. 

Nagkatinginan lang ulit kami ni Julie. We did not know what or how to feel. I think I’m gonna die.

Principal: and one more thing…someone wants to see the both of you….Mr. Tan, please come in.

Sino kaya ‘to? Oh my god…..

Elmo: oh my god. i’m really sorry Julie. di ko sinasadya.

Ayun. Nabangga ako ni Elmo. Habang nag so-sorry siya, tinulungan niya akong pulutin ang mga gamit ko. 

Elmo: sorry talaga. i was just in a hurry. i’m really sorry.

Julie: ….okay lang. 

Sabay kaming tumayo.

Elmo: sorry talaga ha. 

Julie: okay lang. =)

Elmo: sige, mauna na ako.

Julie: sige.

Kitang-kita ko sa mukha niya na medyo may pagka BV siya. Siguro nag-away sila ni Lauren. Or baka nagkatampuhan. Bahala na nga.

Julie to Frencheska and Sarah: girls, tara na! baka maubusan pa tayo ng food. hahaha.
